WIC helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children learn about nutrition and how to eat well. WIC provides nutrition education, nutrition counseling, nutritious food, breast pumps, breast feeding education and referral to other programs including health care. WIC is also called the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program.

Please contact us in Longview at 903-236-7383 or in Kilgore at 903-983-7967 if you would like to schedule an appointment for WIC.

In order to be considered for WIC,
you must fall in one of the following categories:
  -  Pregnant Women

  - Postpartum Women up to 6 months after delivery

  - Breastfeeding Women up to infant’s 1st birthday

  - Infants up to the age of 1 year

  - Children up to the age of 5 years

To receive WIC benefits, you must:
 Meet the Income Guidelines:
  - Household income can not exceed 185% of the federal poverty guidelines. Income for the household is determined by gross income. A family’s household size is determined by the number of people, including an unborn baby, living in the same home.

- WIC applicants with current Medicaid, TANF or Food Stamp benefits are automatically financially eligible
 Be at Nutritional Risk:
  - There are two primary Risk categories: Medical based and Diet based
 Live in Texas:
  - U. S. Citizenship is not a requirement for eligibility

- Applicants will be asked to show a proof of local address

When you attend your appointment, you will be required to bring the following items to the clinic:
  - Identification for every person applying for WIC including the Parent or Guardian

- Proof of your household’s source of income or wages. Remember: Your household is anyone living in your home.

- Proof of your physical address

- Persons applying for WIC

At the appointment, your proof of income will be screened for eligibility. When you are determined financially eligible, your nutritional need will then be screened. This consists of a diet and medical history that you report along with a measurement of your height and weight. Your height and weight will be measured by the WIC staff. Your iron level will also be checked. Then you will speak with a Nutrition Counselor.

After you are determined eligible for WIC benefits, you will receive 1, 2 or 3 months of Vouchers to purchase WIC foods at the grocery store. You will then be scheduled to return to the clinic in 1, 2 or 3 months for Nutrition Education and additional Vouchers.
