Longview Wellness Youth & Family Substance Abuse Prevention & Intervention Services focuses on positive youth development. The Center’s Get Real About Violence curriculum targets after school programs and local school districts in Gregg, Harrison and Upshur counties. This 6-week program concentrates on Contributors to Violence, Vulnerabilities to Violence and Alternatives to Violence for youth grades K through 12. Program staff are trained to implement Brief, Strategic Family Therapy, a brief intervention used to treat adolescent drug use that occurs with other problem behaviors; and Family Effectiveness Training (FET). FET helps Hispanic/Latino immigrant families with 6-12 year old children, who are exhibiting behavior problems, associating with deviant peers, or experiencing parental-child communication problems. The Center offers a Monday night Anger Management and Parenting class from 5:00-6:30 PM at no cost.
