Young women 14-21 and adults will receive education on the importance of early access to prenatal health care. Both groups will receive information and education in regards to how and where to access pregnancy testing, prenatal care and other health needs.



Providing the following:
 
  • Getting women into prenatal care, maternity care coordination and other programs, such as WIC and Medicaid, as early as possible.
  • Helping to decrease missed health care appointments.
  • Helping women to develop healthier habits and lifestyles.
  • Helping women to increase time between pregnancies and to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies.
  • Getting infants enrolled in Medicaid, WIC, and well-child services as early as possible.

Who is at risk?

 

Women at highest risks of having infant death or a low birth weight (premature) baby are those who:

  • receive limited or no prenatal care
  • become pregnant less than one year following their last delivery
  • are in their teens
  • smoke cigarettes
  • 40 years of age and older
  • use illegal drugs during pregnancy
  • drink alcoholic beverages
  • have poor eating habits
  • have had a miscarriage or low birth weight
  • (premature) baby
  • have certain medical conditions in their family
