Longview Wellness center receives FQHC Status

The Longview Wellness Center (dba Community Health Clinic of East Texas), a 501 (c) (3) organization, is now designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).  The Center is the 1 st clinic in Region IV of Texas, which covers twenty-three (23) counties including Gregg County, with such designation.  The Center's new status allows us to receive reimbursements for Medicare and Medicaid costs, apply for reduced physician's insurance and qualifies the Center for more federal funding opportunities.

The Center was founded in 1992 to provide obstetrics, family planning and gynecological health services for women.  In 1996 the Center was awarded Title V funding to provide obstetric, family planning and child health services; and in 1997 received Title XX funding to expand family planning services and education. Primary health care was expanded to children in 1997 and to adult males in 2000.  Today the Center serves approximately 9,000 medically underserved people annually with plans to expand the patient base to more than 13,000 by the end of fiscal year 2009.
